Ben Ladich is a normal 18-year old guy. Goes to school, runs with a good crew, loves him a Subaru Impreza WRX. And who wouldn't? It's a delightful beast of a car. Unfortunately, Ben's been diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, and the WRX was completely sold out in Ohio. Subaru wasn't going to let this injustice stand.
Ben's hair fell out, he became lethargic, and he suffered radiation burns, but all he wanted was a Subaru WRX, according to the Suburbanite. The Subarapture is upon us, however, and that means that the WRX is hard to come by (it's true, go ring a dealer. Right now. I'll wait). Shaun Swihart, the sales manager at the local dealership, heard Ben's plight and was damn sure he was going to get Ben the Subaru of his dreams:
?The WRX was hard to get,? Swihart said, ?but I decided to everything we could to do to get it for Ben. I got in touch with our company president, Tom Flory and told him about it. He contacted Subaru, and told them about Ben and his situation. He pulled a lot of strings to get it to happen.?
Of course, this isn't the first time that car lovers have come together to help out those in need, nor is it the first time that its involved those who love Subarus. People who like cars tend to be nice people, and we get each other in a way that other obsessives may not.
That being said, Ben's fight isn't over. Last month, students and teachers at his school came together to shave their heads in solidarity and support of Ben and Project Ed Bear, a pediatric oncology charity.
Ben, if you're reading this, just know that we here at Jalopnik believe in you, and that you made a fine choice with the Impreza WRX. Now go hit those rally back roads.
