A man with an undeniable and truly tremendous legacy is known as Leonardo da Vinci. He is popular not only within the realms of his passions, but his name is perhaps one of the most popular of all time. Most are very fascinated with his ideas, life, and amazing works.

Da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452 in the small town known as Vinci. Surprisingly little is known as his early childhood. Throughout this period he was known to live with several members of his family. At 14, he became the apprentice of artist Andrea di Cione and began working in his workshop.

Though much of Leonardo?s early life is the subject of historical conjecture, his later life is legendary. When reflecting on his long list of accomplishments most will turn first to his artwork. He is credited with a variety of true masterpieces which are now priceless works of art that are a major part of art history.

Da Vinci is the painter of perhaps two of the greatest pieces of art in the history of the world. One, The Last Supper, painted in the 1490?s and of course, one cannot mention his work without including the famous Mona Lisa, which was painted in the 1500?s. It is arguably the most famous painting in the world, and it is truly a priceless treasure.

His legacy does not merely revolve around artwork. Da Vinci was also adept at anatomical studies and other fields of science. He was also involved with engineering and inventions, as is credited with a variety of important developments. Very interested in flight, Leonardo was known to study birds with the hopes of creating a flight machine. Also under his belt is the exploration of a wide variety of war machines.

Although Leonardo da Vinci was extremely famous during his own lifetime, his essence and legend has only grown since his death on May 2, 1519. There are many areas of study which cannot be taken seriously without gaining knowledge of this true Renaissance Man. It seems that nothing was beyond his grasp.
