(AP) ? When Roger Federer found himself down two sets and staring at an early exit from Wimbledon, the crowd at Centre Court thought back to the stunning upset that took place there a day earlier and wondered if it was witnessing a repeat.

Federer was thinking back, too, but his flashbacks had nothing to do with Rafael Nadal. It was the scenario Federer remembered, though, that ended up repeating itself.

"Having been there so often, down two sets to love, knowing how to handle the situation (was key)," Federer said.

He proved that again, as the six-time Wimbledon champion overcame a two-set hole for the eighth-time, beating Julien Benneteau of France 4-6, 6-7 (3), 6-2, 7-6 (6), 6-1 Friday in the third round. With the comeback, he narrowly avoided following Nadal out of Wimbledon after the Spanish two-time winner was stunned by 100th-ranked Lukas Rosol on Thursday.

Just like he had against 2009 U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro in the French Open quarterfinals 3? weeks ago, Federer found a way to wrest back the initiative and fight back.

"The thing, when you're down two sets to love, is to stay calm, even though it's hard, because people are freaking out, people are worried for you," Federer said. "You don't have, obviously, many lives left out there. You just try to play tough and focus point for point. Sounds so boring, but it's the right thing to do out there."

Benneteau said he played perhaps the best match of his life, dictating play for much of the first two sets. Even that, though, proved insufficient against the 16-time Grand Slam winner.

"Mentally, he's a rock. He's two sets down and he doesn't show anything. And after that, if your level is a little bit lower ? right here, right now, he takes the opportunity," said Benneteau, whose cramping thighs were massaged by a trainer during two final-set changeovers. "At the beginning of the third set, I was not as good as I was in the first two sets, and in five minutes, it's 4-0."

Like Federer and Nadal, Novak Djokovic fell behind against someone he was expected to beat easily: The Serb ceded the first set, getting broken at love by No. 28 Radek Stepanek, Rosol's Davis Cup teammate for the Czech Republic. But quick as can be, Djokovic turned things around, breaking Stepanek to begin each of the next three sets for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 victory that moved him closer to a semifinal showdown against Federer.

Once Djokovic had Stepanek's serve-and-volley style measured, the passing winners and shoetop-high returns started flowing. Talking about falling behind in the second set, Stepanek said: "Not a good move from my side, because once you get these top guys going, then it's tough to stop them."

Benneteau might have sounded the same lament. For quite a lengthy stretch, he played positively Rosol-esque tennis: hard serves and stinging groundstrokes directed at lines. No fear.

But Federer found an opening and barged through, saved in particular by this: He won 63 of the 80 points he served over the last three sets.

Both Djokovic ? who takes on unseeded Viktor Troicki in an all-Serbian matchup Monday ? and Federer ? who begins Week 2 by meeting 2002 Wimbledon semifinalist Xavier Malisse ? found it odd to be playing with Centre Court's retractable roof closed as a precaution, despite a blue sky overhead.

"That's a bit of getting used to. Indoor grass is not something we're quite familiar with," Federer said.

Here's what happened: A drizzle delayed the start of play Monday, so tournament officials decided to shut the roof. By the time it was closed, and Djokovic headed out to play, the sun was out.

"I was a little bit surprised, when I saw sunshine, that the roof is closed," Djokovic said. "Obviously, they're relying on a forecast that I don't think is very reliable here."

Among those moving into the fourth round on outdoor courts: Denis Istomin, the first player from Uzbekistan to make it that far at any Grand Slam tournament, No. 18 Richard Gasquet, No. 26 Mikhail Youzhny and No. 31 Florian Mayer. Unseeded American Sam Querrey, still working his way back up the rankings after right elbow surgery a year ago, finished off a suspended second-round match, eliminating No. 21 Milos Raonic of Canada 6-7 (3), 7-6 (7), 7-6 (8), 6-4.

Seeded women who won included No. 1 Maria Sharapova, No. 3 Agnieszka Radwanska, No. 8 Angelique Kerber and No. 15 Sabine Lisicki. Four-time major champion Kim Clijsters got through when No. 12 Vera Zvonareva, the 2010 Wimbledon runner-up, quit in the second set because of what she said was a respiratory infection, while 145th-ranked qualifier Camila Giorgi of Italy defeated No. 20 Nadia Petrova of Russia 6-3, 7-6 (6).

Millions lose power as heat wave continues

With more triple-digit heat in the forecast, millions of people in the Mid-Atlantic area were without power on Saturday after violent storms with 80-mph gusts toppled trees, cut power lines and killed four people.

Ohio also saw up to 1 million homes and businesses without power Saturday morning due to the storm front overnight, and at least one person died there.

Forecasters warned of more dangerously high temperatures Saturday. It should top 100 degrees in areas across 25 states, a heat scenario impacting 47 million people, the Weather Channel's Julie Martin said on NBC's TODAY show.

The storms cut power more than 2 million homes and businesses across the Mid-Atlantic area -- including 1.5 million in the Washington, D.C., area, NBCWashington.com reported.

"We have more than half our system down," said Myra Oppel, a spokeswoman for Pepco, a utility serving the D.C. area that had 400,000 customers without power after 80 mph gusts knocked down trees and power lines.

"This is definitely going to be a multi-day outage," Oppel added -- not good news for those relying on air-conditioning to deal with the muggy, triple-digit temperatures this weekend.

Repairing damage "is a monumental task," added Ed McDonough, a spokesman for the Maryland Department of Emergency Management. "This is something that is going to take days, not hours."

Water restrictions were? ordered in Montgomery and Prince George's counties because the storms had knocked out power to its filtration plants and other facilities.

And the high heat prompted the AT&T National golf tournament at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md., to close the competition to spectators and volunteers on Saturday.

4 deaths in D.C. area
Fallen trees were blamed for two deaths in Springfield, Va. ? a 90-year-old woman in her home and a man driving a car.

Two others died in Virginia as well, but details were not available, NBCWashington.com reported.

In addition, a park police officer was injured by an uprooted tree in northern Virginia, and an 18-year-old man was struck by a power line. He was in stable condition after receiving CPR.

Damage in the D.C. area included a rooftop blown off a 7-story apartment building, and dozens of damaged homes.

Widespread power outages were reported from Indiana to New Jersey.

On Friday, the nation's capital reached 104 degrees ? its hottest June day on record.

The heat is also suspected to have been the cause of the deaths of two young brothers in eastern Tennessee, Reuters reported. The boys, aged 3 and 5, had been playing outside Thursday. The younger boy died Thursday, and the older boy on Friday afternoon, according to Eric Blach, administrator for the Bradley County Medical Examiner's Office.

In Kansas City, Mo., city health officials said Friday they were investigating the deaths of three area residents, including a baby boy, to determine if they were heat-related, according to Reuters.

Early Saturday, the National Weather Service issued excessive heat warnings for parts of Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., Virginia, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Kentucky, Alabama, Tennessee and Arizona.

It said the temperatures could get "dangerously hot."

Weather.com published a map of the U.S. showing areas at risk of severe thunderstorms Saturday, with an area from Iowa to the Mid-Atlantic at risk.

"Another round of widespread damaging winds may materialize in these hard-hit areas," it warned. "A second area of severe weather is possible for the central and northern Plains, but those storms may be more isolated in nature."

It said severe thunderstorms typically form at the northern edge of areas of excessive heat.

"A powerful derecho developed Friday over Indiana and marched eastward across Ohio, the Virginias and into Maryland and Delaware, causing widespread wind damage with gusts over 90 miles per hour in some cases," it added.

West Virginia Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin declared a state of emergency after more than 500,000 customers in 27 counties were left without electricity because of the storm.

More than 20 elderly residents at an apartment home in Indianapolis were displaced when the facility lost power due to a downed tree.

The storms also toppled three tractor trailers on Interstate 75 near Findlay, Ohio.

At least four utility poles fell on a road in Columbus, Ohio, making it too dangerous for people in four cars to get out, police said. One person was taken to a hospital.

Washington's Metrorail subway trains were returned to their endpoints due to the storms and related damage late Friday.

"It has had a widespread effect on the region," Metro spokesman Dan Stessel said early Saturday.

He said about 17 train stations were operating on backup power due to local power outages, but that he didn't anticipate service being disrupted on Saturday.

Easy Ideas To Becoming The Perfect You

Finding the best self-help tips and information that is scattered all over the web can be quite exhausting. This article was written to take some of the legwork out of finding the information that you seek. If you are looking for some great self-help tips, read on through this article.

Always challenge yourself. If everything in life were easy, nobody would grow, improve or change. Challenges and adversity are the keys to growing as a person. Try doing something that you are afraid of. The feeling of confidence in yourself when you conquer your fears can push you to new heights.

If there are tasks that you need to do that seem overwhelming, divide them into a series of smaller tasks. This will help you get what you need accomplished, and you will learn how to be efficient and goal-oriented in your work. This will improve both your career and your personal life.

In order to motivate yourself to personal development, you should aspire to live every day with purpose. Having direction and purpose is an excellent way to propel yourself to greatness. The fact is that without direction, it is easy to let daily challenges catch the better of us. If you have bigger fish to fry, you will be more likely to resolve small issues.

When you are ready to better yourself, give yourself a challenge. Have you ever wanted to learn a new skill? Make steps toward making this a reality. If you will get out of your comfort zone it will help you do discover any hidden talents and strengths. When you make yourself try new things you can see exactly what you are capable of.

If you find yourself more susceptible than usual to negative thoughts and critical observations, look to your social circle for clues. You may discover that your peers are contributing to a highly pessimistic and caustic outlook, and that you are allowing these people to actively shape your own unhappiness. Try to surround yourself with positive, nurturing people who can lead by example.

Start educating yourself about the world and not just your country. A good topic for discussion is relating different countries to your own. When you talk about the knowledge you know of different countries other people become more interested in just how educated you are, so take some time to learn about all cultures.

It is important to realize that habits are hard to break. Just because you set your mind to do something, it does not mean that you will be able to change it right off the bat. You may catch yourself going back to what you are used to. Do not let this stop you from making the change you want.

If you are not sure where to start or what to change, imagine that you have to explain to someone in authority what you would need to do to develop or progress. If you have to, write it down and think about what would you need say to convince someone else that you are on the right path? This will help you be more clear about what you want to accomplish.

Figure out what you want to do with yourself. This doesn?t mean that you need to map out your entire life in advance. Consider the next five years. Where do you want to be? What does your life look like? If you evaluate this vision you can pull apart the layers and determine the best course of action to get where you need to be.

Make sure that your goal is not just something that you logically think you want to attain. Make sure that your goal starts from your heart. By doing this, it will make the goal very desirable for you and therefore it will make it easier for you to work for it.

Learn to value what is best in your life. When you value something, you naturally want to do whatever you can to achieve it or preserve it. What you value influences the choices that you make in life. So if you value the best in your life, the activities that you choose will work toward achieving the best in your life.

You need to accomplish at least one planned task a day if you want to feel productive. The task should not be a daunting one. It is important to choose a task that fits into the time that you have available rather than trying to squeeze something into a smaller time slot than is truly needed.

Increasing your personal satisfaction with life is sometimes as easy as learning to give back to the community around you. Giving selflessly and donating charitably is an excellent way to increase your own feelings of self worth. Better yet, giving selflessly is an excellent way of proving your worth in your community.

Hopefully with all of the information you just learned you can start taking some serious steps toward your personal development. Remember that it is one thing to want to do something and it is another thing to actually do it, so try your best to do what you think is going to be right for you in your personal development goals.

Are you looking for ways to move on in your life after suffering from a major break down in your relationship? Then you should see quotes about a broken heart

Alternatively, you can also read up more about quotes about moving on

You wanted to know: what's the food like on board?

There are 25 scientists on the Knorr, and 22 crew members. (And then me ? the weird one with the camera). That?s 48 people altogether?which makes operating the Knorr quite a logistical feat. And that includes feeding us.

How is your food? What are they feeding you? Is it like space food or more like everyday food? Brian from North Carolina

A few days ago, Michele, the head steward, took me on a little tour of the kitchen and food storage areas. The mess deck (where we eat) and the kitchen and storage are at the front of the boat. So when we went down into the food stores, I could feel the rise and fall of the ship more than most places. Thankfully for everyone, I managed not to lose my lunch onto the frozen meats (of which there were many, many varieties in that freezer).

Some of the many frozen meats I managed not to puke on.

Check out those giant cans.

So where does all that food come from? The stewards refill their stocks at each port. So while the scientists loaded the boat with their equipment, Michele loaded her store rooms with meats, veggies and beans that were delivered to the dock. Often that means that cooks are using local foods and ingredients. Michele cooked us Portuguese beans one night, and we?ve had rolls and milk from Portuguese companies. That also means that some things have to come from far away ? some of the fruits and vegetables, like blueberries, had to come from Spain since they were hard to find in Portugal.

Virtually any condiment you could possibly desire is available.

Michele making scallops, potatoes, and everything else we had for dinner.

Michele and the cook, Erskine, plan meals about a day in advance. They?ve got two big walk-in freezers below deck where they keep fish, meat, vegetables and other frozen foods. When they figure out what they?re going to make, they pull the frozen food out of the freezer and into the thawing room.

Here?s the meal schedule:
7:30-8:45 is breakfast. That usually means eggs to order, some kind of potatoes, grits, oatmeal, breakfast sandwiches, cereal, that kind of stuff.
11:350-12:15 is lunch. Everything from grilled cheese and tomato sandwiches to chicken wings to tacos along with salads, coleslaw, fruit and other side dishes.
3:00 is cheese o?clock. They put out a cheese plate with meats and lox and crackers and freshly baked bread.
5:00-5:30 is dinner time. There?s almost always some kind of meat and some kind of fish. Then sides like potatoes prepared in various ways, steamed vegetables, fried rice, etc. And, of course, dessert. Yesterday it was cheesecake. Sometimes it?s pie or cookies or ice cream.
8:00 They put out snacks for the evening ? nuts, cookies, chips, candies.

The bazillion choices we had for breakfast today.

Basically, there is always food, and it?s not anything like space food. It?s good! Yesterday there was wasabi and sesame crusted grilled tuna. It was delicious. Michele also makes tasty pies, muffins, bread, and all sorts of other baked goods. My biggest problem isn?t going to be not eating enough, but exactly the opposite. And aside from feeding us constantly, they don?t skimp on the portions either. Ask for a ?little bit? or ?small amount? of anything, and you get a skeptical eye and a full plate. One scientist on board told me that she goes to sleep just to stop eating.

Storing, prepping, and serving all that food isn?t easy. Michele and Erskine have to lug everything they need up the stairs from the storage area, cut, wash, slice and cook it all in the kitchen as the boat sways back and forth (and up and down, and all the other directions too). I?m impressed.

Prepping mushrooms.

One amazing thing (to me at least) is that it?s day nine, and we still have fruits and vegetables at meals, and apparently we will for a lot of the trip. That means that the strawberries, tomatoes, and lettuce have survived for weeks. That?s way better than my success rate with fruit (as my poor roommates can attest). Michele has all sorts of tricks for keeping fruits and veggies fresh ? she freezes them, wraps them up, and keeps them in closed containers. The refrigerator on the ship also has an ozone emitter, which keeps fruits from going bad?for a little while at least. I?ve heard that during the last week of the cruise, there will be a lot of meat and potatoes.

Most of the vegetarians (and vegans) on board have given up their diets for the month ? myself included. Thankfully there?s a gym on board ? a few machines in a spare room ? which I should probably go visit right about now.

Steaks for everybody!

During this trip, I?ll be answering your questions about the science, this boat, and life onboard. Want to know how we search for plankton, why we?re here, or what the food is like? Just ask me! Ps 68:6 ?God sets the lonely in families.? |

It?s true, adoption and foster care sets lonely children in families. All too often, however, once the children are home, adoptive and foster families are also lonely. When families have biological children, many people share the journey. Families, churches and social groups surround the new family with attention and interest. ?Adoption and foster stories often generate a different response. Adoptive and foster families are often met with comments like this, ?That?s great you are doing that. I could never do that.? ?

Adoptive and foster families feel like an anomaly. Often there are few foster and adoptive families in their church or extended family. Families feel like they no longer ?fit? with their former social groups or their church. They are lonely.

God commands us to care for the lonely. The family of God, the church, must surround lonely families, including foster and adoptive families. These families are often overwhelmed. It?s hard to ask for help or even to initiate social contact with other families. The church can support those families in many ways, especially by maintaining and promoting those social contacts. Church families can help meet not only the spiritual needs of these families, but also the physical and social needs. It takes effort on the part of these church families. It takes thought to invite and reach out to families who may not have the energy to respond. It isn?t always easy for church members to know where to enter in.?

Recently I had a conversation with a friend. I was telling her about a foster family who had just brought four young children into their home. I commented, ?I hope that their church surrounds them and the new kids, because it will be hard.? Her comment was, ?Well, they (the foster parents) wanted this. They knew it would be hard.?

Yep! These families knew it would be hard and said ?yes? to setting the lonely in families. Let?s encourage our church family to say ?yes? to setting the lonely families into warm and loving church families even when it?s hard.?

German court: Circumcision on boys an assault

(AP) ? A German court has ruled that circumcising young boys on religious grounds amounts to bodily harm even if parents consent to the procedure.

Cologne state court said the child's right to physical integrity trumps freedom of religion and parents' rights, German news agency dapd reported Tuesday.

The case involved a doctor accused of carrying out a circumcision on a 4-year-old that led to medical complications. The doctor was acquitted, however, and prosecutors said they won't appeal.

The president of Germany's Central Council of Jews, Dieter Graumann, called the ruling "unprecedented and insensitive," urging the country's parliament to clarify the legal situation "to protect religious freedom against attacks."

Graumann said the circumcision of newborn Jews has been practiced for thousands of years and "every country in the world respects this religious right."

Muslims also circumcise young boys, while many parents request it on health grounds.

The state court's ruling creates a tricky legal situation for doctors who perform the procedure on parents' orders.

Unlike female circumcision, there is no law prohibiting it and the ruling isn't binding for other courts. However, it sets a precedent that would be taken into account by other German courts when ruling on similar cases.

The Latest Project From Siri-Creator SRI: Lola, An Intelligent Banking Assistant

Lola4I just got out of a meeting at SRI International, where representatives from both SRI and international banking group BBVA showed off something they've been working on for the past couple of years. Currently, SRI is best known as the research institute where Siri was developed before spinning out into a separate company and eventually being acquired by Apple, where it powers the Siri feature on the iPhone. Evan Guthrie Law Firm Provides Wills And Estate Planning For First ...

- Evan Guthrie of the Evan Guthrie Law Firm in Charleston, South Carolina provided wills and estate planning for first responders in Columbia, SC on Saturday April 28th 2012 as part of a wills clinic put on by the Young Lawyers Division of the South Carolina Bar. The wills clinic was held at the South Carolina Bar Conference Center in Columbia, South Carolina with several young lawyer volunteers donating their time to provide a critical service to those that protect and serve the state and community. The first responders that participated in the clinic included police officers, fire fighters, and EMS from various state and local agencies. The wills clinic provided the participants with a simple will with a personal property memorandum, a living will or declaration for a desire of natural death, and a health care power of attorney. These estate planning documents and advance directives were provided free of charge to the responders that took part in the clinic and were witnessed and notarized on scene at the clinic so that everyone could leave with completed documents. The inherent risk and dangers associated with being a first responder such a police or fire fighter makes the need for an estate plan especially great and critical. The first responders that put their lives on the line every day to serve everyone in the community and it is a small way that attorneys can say thank you by putting on the clinic. Attorney Evan Guthrie participated in the Columbia wills clinic for the second year in a row and this was the second first responder clinic he took part in during the year after being a part of the one in Charleston SC earlier in the month. Attorney Guthrie enjoyed being able to use his legal skills to give back and looks forward to participating in future events for the Young Lawyers Division.

How to Budget Fast and Easy: The 5 Steps to Success - ECONTENTZ

Some of the most frequently asked personal finance questions during this difficult economy revolve around ?how to budget?, ?how to make a budget? and ?how to live on a tight budget?. Budgeting your money successfully is crucial to flourishing in any type of economy, much less a tough one. There is a common misconception that good budgeting depends upon fancy forms, financial expertise, software programs and solely on one?s income. All of these false notions completely circumvent the only true goal of any personal budget: Getting the most value for each of your hard-earned dollars.

Those misguided beliefs above are the key reasons why many people are much worse off than they should be, regardless of income levels or familiarity with financial software. There are many people who are much ?better off? with a lower income and a simple budget form than those with great salaries and top-notch computer programs. These successful folks are the ones who have learned the secret: Keenly stretch your dollars without sacrificing quality or ?good living?. This is the foundation for our budgeting method and it is the best method. It is the most effective method because it combines the three critical budgeting elements: Cost-cutting without sacrifice, timing your income/expenses and simple, accurate recordkeeping.

We have been successfully managing a household budget for nearly 30 years and have survived many unforeseen ?bumps and bruises? along the way. During that time, we paid off our mortgage eight years early, sent two children through college, managed to save a good deal of money and maintained a nice standard of living. There were no magic tricks involved, just common sense, a few simple forms that we developed (see below) and a little effort. We have read countless ?How to Budget? books and articles over the years and while a select few were beneficial, the majority we simply dismissed out of hand.

Unfortunately, most budget or personal finance ?experts? approach cost-cutting from the standpoint of scaling back on items and niceties as a first choice, as opposed to a last resort, as it should be. One author for a popular financial web site even suggested eating a sandwich or a snack before going out to dinner because you would be less hungry and therefore saving some dollars. Taking this ?logic? just a step further, why not just stay home and save even more? It is this type of lazy journalism and advice that keeps people meandering on the path to mediocrity. We had a good chuckle and moved on.

There is a Better Way?

The Dining Out Example:

The basic idea behind going out to dinner is to escape your stresses for a bit, have fun, relax, enjoy a change of scenery and forget about cooking and doing dishes for the evening. If you are going into it overly concerned about the financial aspect, you are nullifying the underlying relaxation intent. Our approach for ?cutting back? on dining out expenses is quite the opposite: Cut only the bill, not the quality or quantity of dinner items. How so? By using Restaurant.com, anyone can cut their dining bill by 60% every day and up to 92% on special days. That is paying 8 cents on the dollar. This is a much more effective approach and no one needs to worry about filling up on pretzels on the way to the restaurant.

While well-intentioned, it is this narrow, defeatist assertion of the author and many like-minded peers that we reject. Cutting back on products, services and enjoyment to save money is not getting ahead, it is trading off. And trading off is not the path to living better. We fully support frugality, with the added feature that you can be frugal AND attain a higher quality of living simultaneously. Certainly you shouldn?t waste money on items which return little value but nor should you unnecessarily deprive yourself of the fruits of your labor. Break free from the antiquated ?You can?t have your cake and eat it too? crowd. A cake has only one purpose and the trick is to find the cheapest high-quality ?baker?.

It is this simple dining out example upon which our entire budgeting principle is based: Why spend more for something when you don?t have to? We take it to an extreme however and raise the question to: Why spend MUCH more for something when you don?t have to?

Much like visiting the local market and discovering that Joe is selling a bag of apples for 10 dollars while John is selling the same bag for 3 dollars, the choice is simple. This ?supplier-replacement cost-cutting technique? is the backbone of our budget plan. Accordingly, we highlight similarly discounted deals in many areas of consumer spending. That is our philosophy and this is reflected throughout our site and specifically in our Budget Cutters section. The prices are 50%-90% off of retail on many purchases, bills and expenses that people deal with every day. Furthermore, in many cases, the ?3 dollar apples? are of higher quality than those in the 10 dollar bag. This is the ?secret? to getting ahead.

Our mindset and methodology on how to budget are clear:

1) Slash costs.

2) Maintain quality.

3) Pocket the difference.

The old adage is true: ?A penny saved is a penny earned?. The real goal though is to multiply the benefits of that adage over the course of time into ?Thousands of dollars saved are thousands of dollars earned?, while increasing your standard of living and net worth.

How to Budget: Step by Step Instructions:

Note: All of the forms referenced are freely available on our web site, along with sample completed forms.

Step 1: Find a quiet spot, relax, clear your mind and rid yourself of all of the over-complicated, force-fed convoluted advice that you have received over the years. Successful personal budgeting is easy and enjoyable, particularly the end result.

Gather all of your current information regarding income, debts, recurring expenses and discretionary (fun, entertainment) spending. This can be handwritten on a piece of scrap paper or with a collection of paystubs, bills, bank and credit card statements. To keep matters simple, use your after tax (net) income for purposes of using our forms. If you have savings, insurance or other expenses deducted from your paycheck, add those amounts back in to figure your net income. This will be your true net income, those ?deducted? expenses will be listed in another area of your worksheet. Enter all of your data in the appropriate area of the Budget column on your Budget Form. This is a simple 3 column form with the headings: ?Actual?, ?Budget? and ?Variance?. Do not be disheartened or discouraged if the results appear pessimistic at this point. Your only goal at this stage is to be certain that you have all of your items listed.

Note: Steps 2 and 3 are performed only when using our budget plan for the first time. Thereafter, it is simply a 3-step process.

Step 2: This is the most critical and the most overlooked step by many people. It is the step which differentiates our plan from the majority of others which emphasize cutting your quality of life to save a buck. Remember the theme: ?Cut only your costs, not your enjoyment?. This crucial area requires some upfront effort and will be well worth the time. Our Budget Cutters section will be an enormous help. In this step you will permanently cut the ?fat? (overpaying) and this is the foundation upon which all of your future budgeting success depends. As you discover big savings on the payouts that you have already been making, this money will fall to the ?bottom line?, your pocket?where it belongs. Take your time and review the deals that we have listed, as well as any deals that you may find on your own.

When you have good estimates for your cost-reduced budget figures, enter these figures in the New Budget column on the Comparison Shop Form. This is a simple 3 column form with the headings: ?New Budget?, ?Original Budget? and ?Variance?. Enter the information from Step 1 in the Original Budget column and figure the variances. This will illustrate your newfound savings by category.

Note: This step may take some time before you have whittled down every one of your expense categories. Do not fret, use your best estimate at this point and adjust your figures as you move through later months. If you are in a dire hurry to get your budget done immediately, skip Steps 2 and 3 for now and revisit them later. Bear in mind the importance however, as this is the step which puts money back into your pocket.

Step 3: Adjust your budget and re-apply your newfound savings to some of your critical categories: Debt (particularly credit card debt), savings accounts and ?fun? spending. These figures are entered in the New Budget column of the Budget Readjustment Form. This is a simple 3 column form with the headings: ?New Budget?, ?Original Budget? and ?Variance?. Example: If you have been making only the minimum payments on your credit cards, increase these payments immediately for the sake of your long term financial health. Credit card interest is a killer and the longer these debts exist, the more damage it will do to your cash flow. Equally as important, comparison shop your current cards for better deals concerning interest rates and cash-back options. Enter your changes in the New Budget column. The goal here is to maintain virtually the same bottom line after you have readjusted your categories. These are now your official budget figures.

Step 4: At the conclusion of the first month, enter your actual spending in the Actual column of the Actual vs Budget Form and your newly budgeted figures in the Budget column of the form and figure your variances. This form is identical to the one in Step 1. This is your report of how well you performed for the month. Use this first month as your stepping stone for the future, with steady progress as your goal.

Step 5: This is the step that ties it all together: The Weekly Budget Form. This is a simple 3 column form with the headings: ?Actual?, ?Budget? and ?Variance?, broken down by week. This form will be an immeasurable help in planning the timing of your bills and income. This form is completed much in the same manner as the others but is organized by week and due dates to ensure that your budgeting process will flow without any shortfalls in funds. Before the month begins, fill in all of your Budget data (according to your due dates) in the Budget column of the Weekly Budget Form.

The key here is to make certain that the figure labeled Gain or (Loss) for the month (at the bottom of the form) in the budget matches the figure labeled Balance in the budget column of your monthly Budget Form. It is imperative that these two figures are in sync before the month begins. At the completion of each week, fill in your actual data in the Actual column. When the month is complete, the actual and budget figures on the last line of the Weekly Budget Form should match the actual and budget figures on the last line of the Monthly Budget vs Actual Form. You will now have completed reports on a weekly and monthly basis for the month just ended.

Gaming Equipment Companies Virtually Expand Overnight | Pokerati

Shuffle Master, IGT, Bally and WMS ink online gambling deals

Casinos were hard hit during the financial downturn, putting pressure on their gaming machine and equipment suppliers. A flurry of deals suggests game suppliers are looking to reduce their exposure to brick and mortar casinos by tapping into online gambling.

Shuffle Master sells and leases poker card shuffling machines. As Howard Stutz?noted, the company posted healthy revenues last quarter. But Shuffle Master?s future growth may come from dealing virtual cards. In March, the company agreed to acquire the European online poker software company Ongame Network.

This month, Shuffle Master and gaming equipment maker Bally Technologies inked a deal to have Ongame?s poker network operate on Bally?s iGaming platform. On June 21,?Bally was granted final approval for one of?Nevada?s new interactive gambling licenses.

In May, gaming equipment supplier International Game Technologies (IGT) (think Wheel of Fortune) tendered an offer to pick up Sweden?s online poker network provider Entraction. One month later, IGT was another recipient of a Nevada online gaming license.

WMS, the manufacturer of Wizard of Oz and Reel?Em In,?recently acquired Swedish online casino company Jadestone and the social online casino game provider Phantom EFX. WMS has secured preliminary approval from the Nevada State Gaming Control Board for an interactive gambling license.

A study led by Dr Bryony Hoskins at the University of Southampton for the European Commission (EC) has warned of the dangers of concentrating solely on economic policies to create growth in European countries.

The report Participatory Citizenship in the European Union funded by a 274,996 grant from the EC examines how and to what extent, people in Europe actively take part in society, communities and politics, and identifies any barriers to this.

Lead researcher from Southampton, Dr Bryony Hoskins says, "In the current harsh economic climate across Europe there has been a loss of trust in political leaders and a move towards more extremist parties. It is important for people, especially the young and unemployed, to have their voices heard in the political decision making to mitigate this.

"The study maps the state of play on levels of citizen engagement, and identifies policies and practices to facilitate this across Europe to help find effective strategies to encourage people to get involved."

The research, carried out in collaboration with eight partner institutions in seven European countries1 was based on the analysis of data on current policies and practices from each of the 27 member states in the European Union (EU), interviews with key experts, and data from existing European and international studies.*

Results have shown that in relation to the economic crisis and creating growth participatory citizenship, economic competitiveness and social cohesion are interrelated and reinforce each other. The report recommends that strategies are needed to encourage people to get more involved in communities, politics and decision making, at both national level in EU countries, and more locally within individual countries.

The report makes these key recommendations:

  • To place an emphasis on learning citizenship, both in schools and outside of school. The study shows people who vote and take an interest in politics and decision-making are usually engaged in diverse forms of learning at different levels.
  • To target disadvantaged groups most at risk of unemployment and exclusion and achieve this through engagement in schools; vocational education or training; and youth work.
  • The EC should provide long-term strategic and sustainable funding for projects; non-governmental organisations; and programmes encouraging participatory citizenship (to counter those being cut due to the financial crisis).
  • Encourage collaboration and partnerships between different types of organisations, such as schools, local authorities, youth groups, charities and businesses.
  • Explore the use of new social media to enable wider participation in decision-making by providing more interactive forums for the exchange of information between citizens and politicians.

Barriers and key challenges to participatory citizenship were identified as:

  • A lack of trust in politicians.
  • The challenge of creating a dialogue between politicians and the public.
  • A decline in participatory citizenship generally as a policy priority.
  • The need to meet the challenges of the globalised economy; climate change; an ageing population; and an enlarged EU.

The findings of the study will be used to help shape European policy and funding programmes, in particular the:

Bravo Confirms Departure of Jill Zarin from The Real Housewives of New York City

It's been known for awhile, but now it's confirmed: Jill Zarin will not appear again on The Real Housewives of New York City.

Zarin herself commented on her exit last September, while rumors then surfaced that Ramona Singer was responsible for the ousting. But Bravo has finally released a statement of its own on the matter, stating for the record:

"We wish Jill the best, but there is no consideration of her returning to the series.

Zarin, Jill

The network, of course, overhauled this franchise's cast with Heather Thomson, Carole Radziwill and Aviva Drescher heading into its fifth season.

Ratings have been down a bit, however, leading to chatter that Zarin could return. Jill prompted that talk, too, when she told The New York Daily News recently: "I've reached out and offered [Bravo] any support they need" in order to boost viewership.

That will not come to fruition, though, it's now clear, while no new reality show featuring Zarin is in the works, either.

(AP) ? Two people have been found dead in what investigators believe was a murder-suicide at the Beverly Hilton, just hours before the Daytime Emmy Awards are being held at the posh hotel, police said Saturday.

Police responding to a report of a shooting late Friday found a man and a woman dead from gunshot wounds in a hotel room, Beverly Hills police Lt. Mark Rosen said.

Police would give no other details on the two people, their relationship, or the circumstances of the shooting. Police would not comment on whether the deaths were connected to the Emmy awards.

Coroner's officials had yet to begin their investigation, but said they were a man in his late 60s and a woman in her mid-50s.

The luxury hotel was also the site of Whitney Houston's death in February. The singer drowned in the bathtub of her fourth-floor room, just a few hours before she was to attend record executive Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy party in the ballroom downstairs.

An HLN spokeswoman, Alison Rudnick, said the 39th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will go on as scheduled. The cable news channel will be broadcasting live the ceremony, which honors the best in soap operas and talk shows.

The hotel also hosts several other annual galas, including the Golden Globe Awards.

Before the Friday shootings, Beverly Hills had just six homicides since 2008. Such rare cases usually draw national attention, as in the death of a Hollywood publicist who was shot while she was driving after a movie premiere in November 2010. Police say Ronni Chasen was killed in an apparent bungled robbery by a career criminal who later killed himself when approached by police.
