Georgia Perimeter College?
will lay off more than 282 staff and faculty, reports WABE. The layoffs follow the recent discovery that the school in Gwinnett County is facing a budget deficit of $25 million.A campus-wide email sent by Interim President Rob Watts on Monday said 215 full-time employees and 67 part-time positions will be cut, the station reports.
Tenured and tenure-track faculty are safe from the layoffs, WABE said. The school is the state?s third-largest public college.
The number of job cuts is almost a hundred more than the school announced in May.
Watts had said then that at least 185 jobs would be cut, that class sizes would be increased, and that tutoring and student recruiting would be scaled back, WABE had reported.
Georgia Perimeter?s former president and an employee in the school?s finance office were removed in May after state officials discovered the budget deficit. State auditors are analyzing the school?s financial records, WABE said.
