By having your guestroom organized there is no need to go into a state of panic when you discover you will be having overnight guests. Organizing your guestroom will ensure your guests feel welcome and you will be able to enjoy the prospect of their company without going into panic.
Decluttering the Guestroom
As is the case with organizing any room in your home, the first step is to remove the clutter. In many homes, a guestroom is actually a room that serves many purposes. The guestroom may also serve as a home office or in some cases, even a storage room. Regardless of the way you use your guestroom, it is important to make sure it is kept clutter free so that you do not have feel that sense of panic when you find out guests are coming. Get started organizing your guestroom with these steps:
? Begin by removing anything from the guestroom that belongs in another room of the house. Take those items to their appropriate places.
? Remove any items that are unused, unwanted or unnecessary. Take them to a central location so they can be dealt with later.
? Remove any items for recycling or trash.
? Clean the closet. When possible, store items that are in the guestroom closet elsewhere. The goal is to ensure your guests feel welcome. When your guests open the closet in the guestroom they should be greeted by the sight of extra blankets and pillows and empty hangers for their use.
Organizing your Guestroom
After you have removed the clutter from the guestroom, the next step is to give it a thorough cleaning. Do this by:
? Wash the bedding and remake the bed
? Take down the drapes and tossing them in the dryer to remove dust
? Wash the blinds and the windows
? Vacuum everything, including using the attachments to get into corners and along the walls and to remove cobwebs and dust from the ceiling.
? Dust all surfaces.
? Wash ceiling fan blades and light fixtures.
? Vacuum or mop the floor.
Making Your Guestroom Comfortable and Welcoming
There are many things you can do to provide that extra little touch that will truly make your guests feel comfortable and welcome. Consider the following ideas:
? Be sure there are extra hangers in the closet which your guests can use for hanging their clothing
? Keep a luggage rack inside the closet so that your guests will have a place for their suitcase when they arrive.
? Be sure there are extra blankets and pillows in the closet.
? Keep an extra set of clean sheets in the guestroom.
? Provide clean bath towels on a daily basis.
? Place a basket in the guestroom and fill it with shampoo, conditioner, soap, moisturizer and a variety of toiletries just in case your guest has forgotten anything.
? Place a box of tissues and an alarm clock on the nightstand.
Maintaining your Guestroom
Once you have organized your guestroom, it is then time to focus on maintaining it to ensure it is always ready to welcome guests. Follow these simple maintenance rules:
? Change the bed linens immediately after guests depart.
? Replenish toiletries in the basket after guests depart.
