How to Look Natural When You Present in an Online Video

Have you noticed how many successful businesses are using video online to create a presence and build their profile, personal brand, products or services?

The power of video presentations to accelerate your business marketing is undisputed.? In a crowded internet market, it?s already proving to be the best way to create brand awareness and recognition online. ?

Now, savvy business owners are embracing video, because it not only allows you to talk about your company?s expertise or your product, but to demonstrate it, with one-off videos that tell personal or company stories.? Marketers see the value of creating single sales videos or series of tutorial or instructional videos.

But the video or videos need to be great.?They need to look professional and you need to look like you know what you?re doing.

The good news is that the skills involved can be learned. All it takes is some expert guidance on how to use video strategically and a little skilled video presentation training.

And that?s where I come in.

I?m Abbe Holmes, video performance coach, and owner of face2faceidentity.com.au. Over the next few weeks, via this blog, I?m going to be sharing some great tips, tricks and techniques for designing strategies to build your business by creating convincing video content, as well as skills to perfect your video performance.

You may have made videos for your business in the past.? You may have paid a fortune to get videos produced that showcased your business products, or bricks and mortar, with whizz-bang graphics and sound tracks.? The good news is that in the new age of online video, there?s no need to commit to thousands when the solution can be so simple.

How simple?

The truth is, the big corporate video productions of the past aren?t always the solution.? Especially these days, when what people really want to see is you!? They want to know who they?re dealing with and what you?re like; and there?s no better way to get your unique personality and character across than with face2face video presentations, with you front and centre.

Understanding the skills needed for slick video presentation is crucial.? When the content is engaging and well-delivered, you can be guaranteed that online video will dramatically enhance your credibility and convince your customers that you?re the person or expert they want to deal with.

So now that you?re starting to get excited about video, let?s talk about the single most important element to making successful face-to-face video performance; looking completely natural and at ease.

So, here?s performance tip number 1

How to Lose that Rabbit-in-the-Headlights Look Forever!

Have you ever watched a video and thought, ?Oh my god, that person just looks terrified?.

They may well be.

However, it?s more likely that they?re not terrified. They?re just not used to engaging with a camera.? When you stare into a camera, rather than really engaging with it, you look scared, even if you?re not.? Just like a ?rabbit in the headlights?.

You need to talk to the camera as though it?s a person.

Just let that sink in for a moment!

Let me explain. When you?re talking to someone one-on-one, you?re looking into their eyes and you?re using your eyes to convey meaning, emotion and feelings.

However, when you?re looking into a camera, you?re looking into a lens.

It?s inanimate.

It isn?t looking back.? It?s not engaging with us, so we don?t engage with it.

However, think about what face2face video is.? It?s you, looking out from the screen of someone?s computer and engaging with them.? So when you?re making your videos, you need to pretend that the camera is your person and you really are talking to someone.? To create an intimate, friendly feel, just imagine it?s your best friend.

Start practicing this concept by choosing any inanimate object nearby, your paper clip tray, the thing you keep your pens in, or your printer.

Now, I want you to talk to it, as though it was your best mate.? It?ll feel weird because you?ll need to imagine that you?re actually looking into someone?s eyes. Talk about your business, your next product or event and get a feel for what it?s like to talk simply and directly to an inanimate object, as though it?s a person.
