Weichert Raises Funds for the Fight Against Breast Cancer

November 21, 2012 // Franchising.com // Employees at the Weichert, Realtors corporate headquarters in Morris Plains, N.J., recently completed their annual month-long fundraiser for breast cancer research. In total, employees of the Weichert Family of Companies raised nearly $8,000 in October to support the North Jersey affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure? and the American Cancer Society.

?Year after year, Weichert employees go above and beyond to raise money for breast cancer research,? said Denise Smith, senior vice president for Weichert. ?I am proud of everything that has been done to help make a difference and assist in finding a cure for a disease that impacts the lives of so many, including Weichert employees and their family and friends.?

This year, Weichert employees contributed their donations through participation in four fundraising components which included:

  • Pink Hair for Hope?, where a local salon visited the Weichert campus and placed a pink hair extension into interested employee?s hair for a $10 donation.
  • Three designated Fridays on which employees were invited to wear jeans in exchange for a $5 minimum donation.
  • A campus-wide bake sale that raised nearly $1,300 in proceeds for Susan G. Komen.
  • A team of Weichert employees participated in the local Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in conjunction with the American Cancer Society.

About Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Since 1982, Susan G. Komen for the Cure has been a global leader in the fight against breast cancer through its support of innovative research and community-based outreach programs. Through local support, up to 75 percent of the net income from each Komen domestic affiliate is dedicated to fighting breast cancer in that affiliate's community. Every year, Komen affiliates award grants to local hospitals and community organizations that provide breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs for medically underserved women. Remaining net income, minimum of 25 percent, supports the Komen Research Grant Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research and scientific programs around the world.

About the American Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society (ACS) combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end cancer for good. As a global grassroots force of 3 million volunteers, the ACS fights for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. They save lives by helping others stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early, helping them get well by being there for them during and after a diagnosis, by finding cures through groundbreaking discovery and fighting back through public policy. As the nation?s largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing more than $3.8 billion, the ACS turns what they know about cancer into what they do. As a result, an estimated 13.7 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year.
